Every year in Lexington, across Kentucky and the country, there are individuals who die and are laid to rest alone … Without relatives or friends. The Lonely Passage Project (originally inspired by the Lonely Funeral Project in the Netherlands) seeks to provide a simple but important degree of dignity and respect to the passing of this human life.

What We Do
Once a deceased individual is referred by the local coroner’s office … The Project will designate a person from a team of poets specifically selected for this effort.
Drawing from available information a poem will then be composed specifically for that individual and read by the author at the actual funeral.
It is intended that relevant and appropriate information about the burial will be maintained by The Project.
